Rehabilitation of Jan Van Riebeeck Drive in Elsies River
10 November 2025
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has started with the rehabilitation of Jan van Riebeeck Drive, between Francie van Zijl Drive and Epping Avenue in Elsies River. The project covers both the northbound and southbound carriageways. Roadworks will take place from 07:00 to 19:00, Monday to Saturday, and are scheduled for completion by Saturday, 30 May 2026.
‘The purpose of this rehabilitation project is to restore and strengthen the existing road, enhance its structural integrity and to ensure that we keep Cape Town moving. The roadworks will include the placing of new road surfacing layers and constructing new kerbs, channels, catchpits and manholes where necessary. I would like to thank road users for their patience and cooperation over the next few months as we work on Jan Van Riebeeck Drive,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The work areas will be demarcated on a daily basis to regulate traffic flow through the affected area, with possible lane closures while reconstruction of the road is in progress.
The City of Cape Town advises all road users to exercise caution while work is under way; reduce speed, follow all posted signage, remain alert, be considerate of on-site workers and allow additional travel time when passing through the area.
